On the premiere of this season’s TV show of Desperate Housewives, one line from Teri Hatcher’s character, Susan, caused an uproar in the Filipino community. Being Filipino myself I took offense to this as well as the thousands of angry Filipino Americans who called and complained to ABC about what they just witnessed on the show… Let’s get it straight that the actress Teri Hatcher did not make this comment, it was her character that did. However, as an actress she should of realized how this would affect the public and demand a rewrite of the script. There was a petition created online too demanding an apology from ABC and Desperate Housewives from Filipino Americans. Some say “what’s the big deal?” Well the medical community in the US is composed of MANY Filipinos well respected and did in fact get their degrees from the Philippines. This comment stained the integrity of Filipino Doctors and Nurses around the country. oh.. and here’s some info, a lot of Americans do in fact go to the Philippines to get their medical training which is comparable to the training in the US. ABC is going to pay big time for this mistake. |

I was cracking up during this scene and wasn’t offended at all even though I’m Filipino. However my bro happens to be a doctor and he said that there’s going to be a class action lawsuit against ABC. Think about it… now that Filipino doctors have been discredited, some of them are losing clients.
